Salt-Free Systems

Residential Active Armour (Salt-Free)

Active Armour conditions your home’s water to resist scaling and corrosion — no salt, no electricity, no wastewater. Salt-free protection from Crusader of Texas.

Residential Active Armour (Salt-Free)

Active Armour is a whole-home scale-control and water-conditioning system — it inhibits mineral scale, controls corrosion, and lengthens the life of appliances — without adding salt, using electricity, or producing wastewater. A great fit for homeowners who want scale protection while keeping sodium out of their water.

It doesn’t only prevent new scale. With continuous dosing, Active Armour also works to gradually break down and remediate the scale and buildup already in your plumbing, water heater and fixtures — reducing existing deposits over time, no acids or harsh chemicals.

Crusader offers Active Armour in two forms: Traditional Active Armour (used in our residential and food-service systems) and Liquid Active Armour (LAA) for commercial applications.

Crusader Active Armour

Crusader Active Armour Cartridge and tank-based phosphate treatment systems address:

  • Hard Water Scale
  • Acidic Water
  • Iron
  • Silica and Silicates
  • Manganese
  • TDS Corrosion

Phosphates adapt easily to pre-existing water qualities without negatively affecting the water chemistry. Crusader Orthophosphate-based systems are corrosion inhibitors and react with dissolved metals (e.g. Ca, Mg, Zn, etc.) in the water to form a very thin metal-phosphate coating with pipes and fitting surfaces. This forms a microscopic barrier on the inner surface of the pipe that is exposed to the treated water. Crusader Polyphosphate based systems react with soluble metals (iron, manganese, calcium, magnesium, etc.) by sequestering (binding-up) the metals to maintain their solubility in water. The phosphate sequestering process minimizes the risk of discoloration, staining, scaling, taste/odor, and other water quality complaints.

Benefits of Crusader Active Armour

  • Reduced chlorine demand due to corrosion inhibition and sequestration of Fe/Mn
  • Lower color and turbidity in the distribution system
  • Less staining, removal of system scale deposits
  • Control of biofilm regrowth, lower TOC
  • Fewer system coliform violations
  • Increased C-factors and hydraulic flow rates in system
  • Reduced electrical demand
  • Better valve operation
  • Improved meter accuracy
  • Less maintenance and service expenditures
  • Tank-based solutions available for whole house & commercial use

Does this do the job of a Water Softener?

No, Active Armour is not a Water Softening technology; it is designed to control scale and corrosion only. Water softeners physically remove hardness from the water, which allows other major benefits to skin, soap, dishes, and laundry.

*Active Armour Plus only. Media blends are regionally formulated by the manufacturer — systems we stock are blended for Central Texas water, including chloramine treatment. Carbon life varies with your water's disinfectant level and usage, so our annual service includes a chlorine test that tells us exactly how the media is performing. All tanks: fiberglass, NSF/UL/FDA approved, WQA S-100, limited lifetime tank warranty.

Cartridge systems (AA and AA Plus alike) are rated 25,000–120,000 gallons by size (5–25 gpm). Treatment media is replenished on the manufacturer's annual Media-Pak schedule; the replacement trigger is a residual phosphate reading below 0.5 ppm, which we check at every service visit.

What Active Armour Protects

Active Armour is recommended anywhere calcium-carbonate scale or corrosive water threatens equipment: tankless and tank-type water heaters, reverse osmosis purifiers, nanofilters and ultrafilters, ice machines, coffee and vending equipment, food-service equipment, humidifiers, air-conditioning equipment, and other water-processing gear. If hard water touches it, Armor can shield it.

Active Armour vs. Active Armour Plus

Active Armour handles scale and corrosion control. Active Armour Plus adds a ChlorZorb® + catalytic-activator filtration stage that also addresses chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, herbicides, and tastes & odors. Plus models are also the right choice for corrosion control after softening on the high-TDS water common across Texas — a softener removes the hardness, and Armor Plus protects your pipes and fixtures from what’s left.

Simple Annual Service

Cartridge models take a once-a-year cartridge replacement; tank models take an annual Media-Pak. Both are quick visits we can bundle with your scheduled maintenance — no salt to haul, no backwashing, no wasted water in between.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it spelled Active Armor or Active Armour?

Both spellings refer to the same product. The registered trademark is Active Armour® — the British-style spelling with a U — but it's often written “Active Armor” in the U.S. Either way, it's the same salt-free scale and corrosion control system.

What water hardness can Active Armour handle?

Manufacturer spec sheets rate the whole-home tank systems for feedwater hardness up to 30–50 grains per gallon depending on model — well above the 10–11 gpg typical of the harder Central Texas utilities.

Does Active Armour soften the water?

No. It conditions the water to prevent scale and corrosion but does not remove hardness minerals, so you won't get the slick soft-water feel. If you want truly softened water, see our water softeners.
