Frequently Asked Questions

What should I test for in well water?

At minimum: hardness, iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg odor), bacteria (coliform/E. coli), nitrates and pH — plus arsenic or radium where local geology warrants. Our free estimate covers the essentials, and we can arrange certified lab testing for health-related contaminants.

Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

That's usually hydrogen sulfide gas, often alongside iron and manganese. Our MM-OX oxidizing filter is designed to remove all three and clear the odor.

Do I need UV disinfection on a well?

If there's any risk of bacteria, UV is an effective, chemical-free way to disinfect well water continuously. It's a common part of a complete well system.

How often should I retest my well?

At least annually for bacteria and nitrates, and any time the taste, smell or appearance changes — wells aren't treated by a utility, so monitoring is on the homeowner.
